Overview
Beyond the reported cases, Indonesia's Central Statistics Agency found a significant share of women aged 15–64 had experienced physical or sexual violence, and research by Lentera Sintas Indonesia across 25,000 respondents examined why so few report it.
Challenge
The barrier is not only access — it is fear. The research pointed to fear of being blamed and of being backed into a corner as principal reasons survivors stay silent.
Objective
Help survivors report incidents — their own or those around them — to an authorised hotline more easily than the existing routes allowed.
Approach
Built on published data from Komnas Perempuan, BPS, and Lentera Sintas Indonesia, so the design responded to documented reasons for under-reporting rather than assumed ones.
Selected decisions
When the barrier is fear rather than friction, reducing the number of taps is not the goal. The design had to make the act of reporting feel safe, not merely fast.
Deliverables
Research synthesis, user flows, and interface design for the reporting experience.
Outcome
An exploratory design project. It was not taken to production, so there are no usage figures for it.
Reflection
This was the project that taught me an interface can carry a duty of care. A form that would be perfectly good for booking a table is the wrong shape entirely for someone reporting the worst day of their life.
